gallery afterthoughts

gallery7
so the short days of rushing to finish multiple paintings are over… for now. i am a bit disappointed with myself with the current batch of work for the gallery. hanging pieces up at a local public library is not much of a big deal but it definitely does have a larger audience with the community moving in and out. i am almost ashamed to exhibit some of my new pieces but at the same time i have clearly learned something from it.

whatever i work on will never be complete as i am always trying to improve. my brush skills may have diminished but i feel my conceptual ideas have only gotten stronger. i have always had my own inspirations i have followed throughout the years and suddenly realized the difference in the work from 2001 until the present. whether it is the designs that have improved, or the style that has changed, the work has always progressed. i am sure the individuals themselves thought the same thing in the beginning, thinking they could do better, and proved they could.

i know that what i do know is different from my work four years ago, and will be different from four years from now. as an audience, or even a critic, you will only see the final product. i have accepted that and know i will never get anywhere waiting for myself to be satisfied before i take the next step. enjoy some of my new pieces and i will be back with updates on further development shortly.

it’s time to go back to the fundamentals when you have trouble painting a shoe -_-

while surfing through stock images at work i came across this particular photo which caught my interest. i thought the lighting was great for setting the mood, and although i’m not a fan of vignetting, it works very well. her expression is on epic proportions and i know i wouldn’t be messing with her anytime in the next few decades or so… now, just paint a smile and smeared makeup on her face and we officially have the mother of the joker.

i’ve been following two artists for the past few weeks, hera and akut, that go under the name herakut. they have collaborated for years now and approach art from two very different perspectives. i have seen the presence of their work through books and various magazines but never paid much attention to them until recently. i am fascinated with their workflow and if you like what you see, check out their official site. they definitely carry on their own unique style and have a lot to offer. herakut: the perfect merge is out now pictured below.

transformers_tribute2

here are a few more images of current pieces i’ve been working on including a tribute to transformers. it’s interesting to see the progress of a piece in the beginning to realize how different the final work turns out to be. sometimes the outcome doesn’t have any resemblance to the beginning. in need of a good long massage and craving white castle cheeseburgers. ass is set in gear and i have concluded my goal for the next exhibit; every piece will be brand new.
