i found this book awhile back at a bargain book store and it eventually blended in with the rest of my collection. i picked it up again on the way to work the other day and realized it is probably one of my favorites. black ink by ata/toast not only showcases his prime works, but in various mediums and different stages. he goes from digital 3d designs to traditional sketches, graffiti, sculptures and graphic design pieces. the wide range of mediums with his own particular style and sticking to a black and white presentation makes this a great addition to any artists collection. although heavily influenced by graffiti, anyone can appreciate his fine attention to detail and simplistic designs, which in theory, always roots from those first few simple sketches in black and white. it really offers a chance to see a wide spectrum of things you can do from a simple idea or even from a quick doodle that one can create. the book really gives inspiration to the idea of expanding upon mediums while evolving that simplistic idea.

all i can say is: wow. beautiful photography, art direction, directing, acting, story, religious messages that don’t make you roll your eyes, depth, etc… just watch the damn movie already. by the end of the movie you should think back and review what you just watched, and if things don’t dawn on you right away, you should give it a second watch. not only for the story, but for those who appreciate the atmosphere of video games like fallout or borderlands. just got back from the showing and not much to say other than this film will be an instant classic in my own books in my opinion. found this poster online below by tommy lee edwards created for comicon.

so after a trial and error process on my phone which procrastination turned into a few weeks, i can fully update my blog on the go. however, no spellcheck exists, so a big middle finger to all you english majors who come across these mobile posts. recently, marija and i walked by a charicature artist at navy pier. i never tend to pay attention to evil gypsies who steal money from your wallet right in front of your eyes, but oh~ the things you do for a significant other.
i have to admit he was pretty damn good and the simplicity of his sketch makes you walk away thinking “damnit, i could’ve done this myself.” but of course, that’s only if i looked off of the final piece he gave me. i would have to change a few things though, including the alien shaped head and my chinky ass eyes, not to mention marija’s jay-z lips.
live entertainment has become a dying art and its depressing to see the “real shit” go down the drain. navy pier presented a puppeteer during our stay and it seemed like all he did was make the creepy ass dolls dance, but so swiftly i must say. you don’t see things like that as your walking around anymore. everything has cheaper alternatives and skill sets that are replaced by faster efficient methods or forms of entertainment. chinese children in the circus spend their whole life training in one thing so when they grow up they can entertain, or try to become the next jackie chan. who wouldn’t want to perfect spinning 50 dishes on a stick. on a serious note, i have a high level of respect for anyone who has trained and mastered a skill.
all people want to do now is exploit these things such as magicians. not too long ago, all magic tricks were revealed to the public on tv and it isn’t what it used to be. now we have illusionist and crazy effects via video and live shows only exist in vegas or rare occasions. i love when a magician can show you what he is doing, how the trick is done, yet still fool you and make you stare in awe like penn & teller.
it is the feeling you get when it is done in front of your eyes and in the presence of a crowd. nothing beats live entertainment, unless you catch ashlee simpson lip syncing. props to the artist who drew the our portrait and i wish him luck in the future.
