every once and awhile you watch a film with a b grade actor that actually makes you appreciate his life’s work. jcvd, starring… jean-claude van damme… ok give it a chance, this isn’t another street fighter although i used to like him when i was a kid. the muscles from brussels puts on a great performance in jcvd as a washed out actor in a custody battle for his child. for awhile i felt like i was watching an autobiography and the movie is done in a tarantino-esque style with the chronology jumping back and forth. i read online that much of the story was based on events in his real life.
in my opinion this really captures the life of many actors getting up in hollywood. i have no idea what it would be like as an actor like jcvd but the movie shows a side we rarely see on screen. everything from the issues behind the scenes in a cheesy one take action scene, to the shitty movies he knows hes getting into, or even how his daughter is made fun of because of him. the entire movie van damme seems like he regrets his career choices and begs for a chance on the big screen and i feel like he did that with jcvd. i’d give it a chance if anyones looking for something new. i haven’t seen much of his movies but for the ones i have seen, i feel as if i appreciate them much more after i’ve seen this flick. now that doesn’t mean that ill go and watch them though…trailer below.
rofl i forgot how epic the intro was
