like film?

if you enjoy film check out the auteurs. a community based film site that contains films from all over the world. the design and layout of the site look great and i’ve come across plenty of new films i want to watch by surfing around for a few minutes. they have instant watches available for classics as well as in depth summaries and biographies on new discoveries. you can also create a profile to keep track of films you would like to watch or become fans of ones you have already seen. most of what i mentioned is been there done that, but there are differences that you will have to see for yourself.

speaking of film, i just watched a classic last night with marija. léon, or the professional, recently came out with an extended cut on blu ray. the transfer is sharp and the audio quality has, as usual, been revamped. what is great about the blu ray release is that it comes with both theatrical and extended cut, which in this case, equals the us and international release. it is almost as if you get two different movies with the deal, this isn’t just a shitty directors cut with an extra minute of boring dialogue or few extra head shots. it actually adds much more depth to character development and has a nice little back story behind the ending.

it is basically about a little girl who loses a family to a crooked DEA agent and is taken in by a neighbor next door. she soon finds out that he is a hitman and tries to persuade him to teach her his ways. the professional killer becomes a father as well as a friend throughout this movie which goes everywhere from action, drama, and even comedy.

the movie stars jean reno, natalie portman and gary oldman. i believe this is the first movie i ever saw jean reno in when i was younger and loved his work ever since, and natalie portman did an amazing job as well at such a young age; you will never look at queen amidala the same again. gary oldman is superb as always and plays the tweaked out bad guy way before fifth element or book of eli. film making doesn’t get any better than this. with everything being minimal in hollywood standards these days ranging from nearly no cg to a constrained shooting location, the camera works its magic here driven by the actors in an gripping story. this is a classic that was refreshing watching it just as it was nearly 15 years ago.

was surfing the net and came across this post of jean reno pictures.
